Internet Dating Dos and Don’ts

Internet Dating Dos and Don’ts

It’s the 21st century and online dating is all the rage, however, sometimes it can be a bit tricky.

Check out these Do’s and Don’ts of online dating.

Do…

Keep an open mind

Even though it is 2018, there is still some stigma associated with online dating. Forget any preconceived ideas you might have about online dating, go in with an open mind, and you’re bound to meet some really cool people.

Tell about yourself in your profile

Make sure your profile includes details about yourself, your hobbies, and your interests. Your profile is how potential matches get to know about you, so you want to give them as much insight into your personality as possible.

Be yourself

Stay true to yourself with your online profile and when talking to matches. You might end up meeting these people in person and, if your online self is totally different than your real life self, it might create some problems.

Use caution

Be careful when giving out personal details and always meet for the first time in a public location. Use your best judgement when meeting someone from online and, if anything feels off, trust your instincts, and get out of there.

Have a good opening line

Having a lame opening line like, “hey what’s up?” isn’t going to set you apart in the sea of online dating users. Read the person’s profile and reference something specific to them in your first message. This shows that you paid attention to their profile and aren’t just sending the same message to everyone.

Don’t…

Be afraid to message someone first

You aren’t going to make a connection if you never send a message! Take the first step and shoot them a message-the worst thing that could happen is they don’t respond.

Have an incomplete profile

Having an incomplete profile makes it look like you don’t care about dating online and it makes it harder for potential matches to get to know you. Fill in as much about yourself as you feel comfortable to showcase how great you are to potential matches.

Assume everyone is just there for hookups

Sure, there are some people on online dating sites looking for hookups, but don’t assume that everyone is looking for a hookup. There are so many people on these sites that are just like you, so don’t write someone off because you assume they aren’t looking for a relationship.

Pretend to be someone you’re not

There’s a time and a place for faking your interests and online dating sites are not the place for it. Honesty in your profile helps you create real connections with other people and helps show your true personality.

Get frustrated if something doesn’t happen right away

Just like real life dating, internet dating can take a bit of time. Don’t get discouraged if you don’t find the perfect match right away, there’s going to be someone out there for you, just give it some time.
